Former British Prime Minister David Cameron is to stand down as MP for Witney with immediate effect, triggering a by-election in the Oxfordshire seat, he has announced.
Cameron, who has held his Oxfordshire seat since 2001, told the current PM Theresa May of his decision to stand down as a Tory MP this afternoon.
He said that he has no current plans for his future but, as a former prime minister, he cannot be a full constituency MP for the people of Witney.
