Rahul Gandhi, who was detained for a second time by Delhi Police today for trying to meet army veteran's family, was released.

High drama unfolded on streets in Lutyens' Delhi after Congress and AAP workers staged protests over suicide of ex-serviceman.

Gandhi told media persons, "As a political leader I was just doing my job, why was I arrested."

"Arrest me if you want, I said to the police. But why detain them? (family of ex serviceman) Whatever happened with them is wrong," said the Congress vice-president.

"Wanted to speak to bereaved family for 2 minutes but when family came out to meet me, they were beaten and dragged to police station," he said.

He further added, "When I asked the cop why was the family detained, I was told that orders have come from the top."
