On govt table: I-Day 'gift' for refugees

The Modi regime has set itself an August 15 deadline to grant citizenship to hundreds of Hindu minority refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Union home ministry sources have said.

The ministry is working on a bill to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955, and grant citizenship to refugee Hindus in line with a promise made by the BJP in its 2014 general election manifesto. At public rallies ahead of that election, Narendra Modi had promised to host persecuted "Hindus" from "any country" in the world.  Read more
