Media baron Aveek Sarkar resigned as Group Editor of The Telegraph and Anandabazar Patrika. Sarkar said the resignation was just part of a succession plan and that he would continue as chairman of the group, reports News 18.

TMC leaders had accused him running a relentless smear campaign against the party.

However, ABP group sources maintained that his resignation had nothing to do with the TMC.

Anirban Bhattacharya has been appointed as the new editor of the Anandabazaar Patrika while Rajagopalan has been appointed as the new editor of "The Telegraph".

The Kolkata-based ABP group is one of the oldest media empires in India.
