PMO, North Block exults at Rajan's exit

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Finance heaved a sigh of relief that the BSE Sensex did not react to the extent expected at the news that RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan will not be accepting a second term. Over the weekend, Rajan in an email to his staff said he was joining academia after his tenure ends in September.

This morning, senior officials of the finance ministry sat glued to the TV watching news to discern the immediate impact of Rajan's exit, dubbed Rrexit.

Joint Secretaries in the finance ministry were sending each other jokes on Whatsapp about the RBI governor's imminent departure. It was evident that the senior secretaries to the GOI found Rajan's exit a welcome one.BJP Union Ministers say that Rajan was a plant of the UPA and is believed to be the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram's man in the ministry.

They even pointed to the morning rains as a good omen.
