Bombay HC clears Udta Punjab with one cut and dismisses CBFC's plea.  The HC directs CBFC to issue a fresh certificate to the movie in 48 hours.
The court observed that Punjab is a land of green revolution and brave soldiers. So, one sentence (Zameen banjar te aulaad kanjar) can't affect that image. "On cut no 9 (Tommy Singh urinating in front of crowd) ,we don't feel that this scene is necessary in the film.

The only scene that will be deleted in the film is the one with Tommy Singh urinating into the crowd.

CBFC's demand for a stay refused by HC.

The court observes: There is no need to assert or incorporate abusive words in every dialogue. As far as cut no 5 suggested by CBFC is concerned, there are some abusive words, some abusive words need to be deleted. We are not in agreement that in some films cuss words have been allowed so these should be allowed here too.

Udta Punjab does not question the "sovereignty or integrity" of India, the Bombay High Court said today ahead of a likely verdict this afternoon on a series of controversial cuts imposed on the film by the Censor Board.

"We have read script in entirety to see if film encourages drugs. We do not find the film questions sovereignty or integrity of India by the names of cities, reference to state or by a signpost," the court said, referring to the Censor Board ordering the deletion of "Punjab" and names of other places in the state in the film.
