Monsoon above normal limit this year: IMD

All regions, barring the east and northeast India, have started recording monsoon above the normal limit. The northeast and eastern regions are at present experiencing monsoon deficiency.

"Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh and at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places in Vidarbha; heavy at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands," India Meteorological Department said in its forecast for today.

According to IMD, the country as a whole received 218.2 mm of rainfall as compared to normal of 215.3 mm, which is 1 per cent more than the normal precipitation the country receives from June 1 to July 6.

Northwest India, where the rainfall has been playing hide and seek in many parts, including Delhi, ever since the monsoon hit the region last week, has also recorded 19 per cent more rains than normal. Similarly, the southern peninsula and central India got 16 and 4 per cent more rains.
