Datta Padsalgikar appointed as Mumbais new Police Commissioner

Datta Padsalgikar has been appointed as Mumbai's new Police Commissioner. He will take over from Javed Ahmed who retires on January 31. Ahmed will be India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. 

Padsalgikar a 1982 batch officer will be the first Maharashtrian to take over as the Mumbai police chief after almost a decade. 

Padsalgikar known to have a clean image was seen as a personal choice by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who went on a limb to get Padsalgikar as Mumbai.
