Major terrorist attack on Karachi airport foiled
January 22, 2016  10:36
The Karachi police on Friday claimed to have foiled a major terrorist plot to stage a "deadly assault' on the airport, with the arrest of nearly a dozen suspected terrorists from the Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent and the Lashkar I Jhangvi, the Dawn newspaper has reported.

The plan was to attack the airport, like the one staged in June 2014, and occupy "key sensitive government buildings,' the newspaper reported.

Ali Raza, chief of the Counter-Terrorism Department told a media conference that, acting on a tipoff, the CTD raided Ittehad town and picked up the suspects.

"They had been involved in targeted killings and terror incidents in Karachi during the past two years and have been in hiding since last month and now they were regrouping when they were arrested,' Raza said.
