America's decision to lift its sanctions on Iran has provided a major boost for India, as the modalities for making payments for oil has now been eased.

From now on, payments to Iran will directly be made, for which the modalities will be worked out.

According to a top source in South Block, Petroleum Secretary K D Tripathi  today said he was keen to get in touch with Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das and also with the Foreign office to get some clarity on the political situation in Iran.

India heaved a sigh of relief on Monday when offices of joint secretaries opened after the weekend. Phones were busy as officials tried to get a handle on the approach of India towards Iran in the future. Unless a proper policy framework and guidelines are chalked out with the Prime Minister's Office, India cannot react.
