What lies ahead for Modi after Pathankot
January 05, 2016  12:38
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been holding high-level meetings over the Pathankot terror attack. Two major points have emerged in the last three days. There is a growing feeling inside the government that a two-pronged strategy needs to be adopted -- launch a surprise attack and thenwithdraw from talks. In fact on Monday afternoon Modi had a surprise phone call from the top leadership in the RSS giving a green signal to the twin strategies. This phone call from the RSS has made Modi more focused on the task at hand, say party sources.

Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's approach on the day of the parliament attack in 2001 was to rush the army to the borders. But Modi's approach seems to be different. After the dust settles in Pathankot there will be political pressure on Modi to have aline of command and ensure that the National Security Advisor (Ajit Doval) also consults senior Union  ministers as well instead of keeping only the PMO informed of his achievements.
