Twenty-four hours after Cyclone Vardah slammed into Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, citizens in Chennai are picking themselves up after the storm left 10 dead and thousands displaced in both the states.

Reports say that no shops in Chennai have been accepting card payments citing network failure (the government's cashless drive hasn't accounted for acts of God) and people are unable to buy essentials.

Moreover, banks are shut today as well, for the fourth consecutive day. While the rest India brought in Eid-e-Milad yesterday, Tamil Nadu celebrates it today. So bottom line:

-- Flights have resumed in Chennai.
-- Power has been restored in some parts of the city, some remain without power for over 24 hours. Large swathes of the city which are still powerless will be connected tonight.
-- 10 people are dead, thousands displaced.

The cyclone has weakened after crossing land, but the Met office has forecast heavy rain in the next six hours and schools and colleges are closed for a second day today in Chennai and neighbouring districts.
