Former Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand, Tarun Vijay, was among those who went to Chennai to pay homage to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the memorial on Marine beach. Later he called on Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, and Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (seen in the photograph alongside) to offer his condolences.

Tamil Nadu has a special place in Tarun Vijay's heart, and he has taken up the task of spreading ancient sage-poet Thiruvalluvar's seminal work Thirukkural in north India with zeal.

Recalling Jayalalithaa's assistance in helping the sage-poet's statue come up at Haridwar, Vijay said she will always be fondly remembered by the people of Uttarakhand.

"She was courageous, admirable and an affectionate mother to millions of poor people. I will spread the message of Thiruvalluvar in a special campaign in the North and also urge Tamil homes to have one statuette of Thiruvalluvar in her memory," Tarun Vijay said.
