Tamil Nadu on high alert; crowd grows outside Apollo

Tamil Nadu was on alert after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, under treatment since September 22 at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, suffered a cardiac arrest Sunday evening, according to a bulletin issued by the hospital.

Around 1,000 police personnel have been on duty outside the hospital around midnight, with police resorting to a mild lathicharge to control the crowd. 

Many supporters were seen wailing and praying for the well-being of the chief minister. 

News agency ANI reported that CRPF teams had been put on high alert.

Heavy police force has been deployment outside the hospital to control the mammoth crowd.
