British MPs offered self defence lessons

MPs in Britain are being offered self defence training to equip them in the event of an attack, months after a 41-year-old lawmaker was killed outside her constituency.

The fighting technique Krav Maga -- Hebrew for "contact combat" -- combines elements of judo, jujitsu, street fighting and boxing.

It is taught as a defence against assailants with guns or knives and comes after the knife attack on Jo Cox was killed outside her constituency in West Yorkshire, northern England, in June.

The free lessons, which are being provided by Parli-Training, are aimed at protecting MPs against stalkers, terrorists and political extremists, 'The Daily Telegraph' reports.

Mendora Ogbogbo, Parli-Training founder, said: "We are teaching them techniques where if someone comes at them with a knife or a gun, they can disarm the weapons and then run. They are not being taught how to fight."
