Revenue down 8.2 percent at Trump Taj Mahal amid strike

The first month of a strike against Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal casino helped push its revenue down by 8.2 per cent in July.

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn owns the casino that Donald Trump opened in 1990.

Icahn is shutting it down October 10, saying it is losing millions of dollars a month.

Figures released on Friday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show the Taj Mahal won $17.5 million from gamblers in July, down 8.2 per cent from the $19.1 million it won in July 2015 when there was no strike.

The results likely would have been worse had there not been an extra Saturday and Sunday this July compared to last July. Overall, revenue at Atlantic City's eight casinos was up 6.9 per cent in July, to $275.2 million.
