Venu Rajamony, Press Secretary to the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, has been promoted to the rank of Additional Secretary to the Government of India in the Union Ministry of External Affairs.

Rajamony, a career diplomat, is from the 1986 batch of the Indian Foreign Service and is due for a posting as an ambassador by the year end.

The Prime Minister's Office is waiting for the US Presidential elections to conclude, after which it will take a decision on whether to continue the present Ambassador to US Arun Kumar Singh, or appoint a new person.

Once this decision is taken, postings in other world capitals will also be made clear, which include China, Great Britain, France -- all of which fall vacant. Rajamony, we hear, could find a slot in any of these positions.
