Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to spring a surprise by wearing a Telangana-style headgear during his Independence Day address from the ramparts of Red Fort.

In 2014, Modi wore a saffron pagdi with white dots from Jodhpur followed by headgear from Madhya Pradesh in 2015.

But this year, Modi wants to shift the focus to southern states, especially the newly-created state of Telangana. The reason is that in Kerala and Tamil Nadu no formal headgear are worn, while in Andhra Pradesh,  Telangana and Karnataka, tribes do wear headgear, and the PM is expected to adopt one.
