Lok Sabha passes amended GST Bill

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the amendments in Goods and Services Tax Bill made by the Rajya Sabha with 443 votes in favour and zero against.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam walked out of Lok Sabha during the discussion on the bill and hence its members were not available for voting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated and thanked the Opposition for supporting the Bill.

Speaking on the bill in Lok Sabha, the prime minister said, GST will give security to small scale manufacturers. They are the strength of our nation. The more we secure them, the more this country will benefit.

Terming GST as Great Step by Team India and Great Step towards Transparency, the PM said that the passage of the bill was a victory for India.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley took questions from the Opposition and issued clarifications on the bill.
