Ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for victims, announces Sonowal

MoS Kiren Rijiju reacts to the Kokrajhar terror strike which left 13 civilians dead and 18 injured. "This is very unfortunate, we will assure that victims are taken care of. We will ask for more details of the attack from the state government and then decide what action needs to be taken."

Grenades  were used in the terror strike, 3-4 militants still on the run. Additional security forces have been rushed to the area. 

At least 3-4 militants shot at and threw a grenade at a haat or a weekly market at Balajan Tiniali at Kokrajhar in Assam. 13 people, all civilians were killed, while 18 people were injured.

One of the militants has been killed. An AK-47 rifle has also been reportedly recovered from a slain militant. Additional security forces have been rushed to the spot.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the incident. He condemned the incident and said strict action would be taken against the perpetrators. Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the next of kin of people who died, Rs 1 lakh for the injured, the CM announced.
