Mamata takes on EC over showcause: People will showcause EC on May 19

In a setback to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, the Election Commission has decided to show-cause her for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

Mamata is accused of violating the poll code in an election rally in Asansol where she announced the creation of a new district.

She has to answer the notice within a fixed time-frame failing which EC can take action against her.

Reacting to the show-cause, a defiant Mamata Banerjee has justified her announcement saying she is completely unrepantant and would do it again. "The Election Commission has show-caused me on Bengali New Year today, people will show-cause them on May 19."

The counting of the votes will take place on May 19.
