Jayalalithaa announces Amma mobile phones for women groups

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced Amma mobile phone scheme for women self-help groups in her state.Jayalalithaa's government plans to spend Rs 15 crore to buy 20,000 Amma mobile phones with special software in Tamil for trainers of the women self-help groups.

Amma is how the AIADMK supremo is fondly known in Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa already has a series of schemes running in that name, with a subsidised chain of canteens for the poor being highly popular among them.
