PM apologises after schools, crematoriums close for Chandigarh visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted his regrets for the inconvenience caused to Chandigarh by his visit to the city today. The PM said on Twitter that, "the inconvenience caused to citizens in Chandigarh, especially shutting of schools due to my visit is regretted. It was totally avoidable. An inquiry will be held and responsibility fixed for the inconvenience caused to the people of Chandigarh."


The PM was in Chandigarh for the 34th convocation ceremony of a hospital and inaugurated a  modern 900-crore version of the city's airport this morning which will handle  domestic as well as international flights.

Consequently, the parking lot at the main crematorium in the heart of the city was turned into parking space for a public rally addressed by the PM. Families that are bereaved have been asked to use another crematorium in the western part of the city. Schools were also closed for his visit.
