First vote, then booze: Jitan Ram Manjhi to supporters
October 15, 2015  09:21
Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has a word of advice for his mahadalit supporters, as he faces an acid test of his popularity in the second phase of the Assembly elections in Bihar: "Pehle matdaan, phir madyapaan (first vote, then booze)."

The Hindustani Awam Morcha founder, who is contesting from the two constituencies going to polls on Friday, has issued an appeal to the voters of his community not to touch alcohol until they cast their votes on the day of polling.

Manjhi, who belongs to the underprivileged Mushahar caste, alleged that his opponents had distributed booze and money among the poor electorate in a bid to influence the voting in the Naxal-infested Imamganj (reserved) constituency in Gaya where he is locked in a bitter fight against JD-U candidate and state assembly speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary.
