A police constable was killed today allegedly by Maoists in the insurgency-hit Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

Constable Manaru Ram Banjam was shot dead by Naxals this evening while he was attending prayer rituals in a temple at Burgum village under Kodenar police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.

According to the police, Banjam, presently posted with the newly set-up Burgum police outpost, was on leave for three days. Armed cadres stormed into the premises and killed him. The body has been recovered by the police, the officer said.

A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding that a hunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
