Just in: The Shiv Sena has won the Kalyan-Dombivli civic polls. The Shiv Sena contested alone, separate from their ally, the BJP.

The campaign was marked by shrill and bitter rhetoric by both parties, which saw Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray threatening to pull out of the alliance last week.

This came after Sena leader Eknath Shinde, a minister in the Maharashtra government of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP, offered to resign, alleging that the partner has been "humiliating" Sena workers Thackeray then said he did not accept the resignation, and added that, if the government becomes arrogant, the Sena will resign all together. Eknath Shinde will not resign alone. He also warned the BJP to remember Indira Gandhi and sheath their arrogance.
