Colombia landslide kills at least 48, official says

At least 48 people were killed after heavy rains caused a landslide Monday in the municipality of Salgar, Colombia, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Medellin, according to Carlos Ivan Marquez, national director of risk management. Twenty-seven people were injured and an undetermined number of people are missing, Marquez said.

The landslide also damaged homes and bridges, said Maria Ines Cardona, Columbia's director of disaster emergency management.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter that the government is working with emergency services in Salgar and that the affected population will receive "all their support."
