India to overtake China in population growth by 2028: govt

The government today said the birth rate in India is greater than that of China and said the country's population will cross China's by 2028.


"Yes. As per World Population Prospects - the 2012 revision, the population of India will cross the population of China by 2028," Health Minister J P Nadda told Rajya Sabha.


He was replying to a question whether the birth rate in India is greater than that of China and if this trend continues, India will surpass the population of China. Naddam, however, said the population control measures taken by the government were not ineffective.
