On Monday, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan called upon BJP MP Poonam Mahajan to ask supplementary questions during Question Hour. But Poonam said she had not sent any slip for a supplementary question nor was she interested in asking a question to union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

It was then that Gujarat MP Poonamben Hematbhai offered to ask a question to Rudy.

Sumitra Mahajan, who has been in the Lok Sabha for seven terms, rose to the occasion and commended both Poonams on their debut in Parliament saying they asked good questions for first timers. The Speaker said she always encouraged women MPs and therefore called upon Poonambhen to ask a supplementary question to Rudy.
