Dimapur lynching: Guwahati HC issues notice to Centre, Nagaland govt

The Guwahati High Court has issued notices to the Centre and Nagaland government over the March 5 lynching incident of a rape accused in Dimapur after he had been forced out of the jail by a huge mob.

Rediff.com/K Anurag reporting from Guwahati writes, admitting a PIL on the Dimapur incident which has attracted the attention of the entire nation as well as global community, a division bench comprising Chief Justice (acting) K S Shreedhar Rao and Justice P K Saikia served notices to the Centre and Nagaland government to file their responses within two weeks.

The High Court also directed the Nagaland government to ensure adequate security of inmates in its jails.

The Central government today submitted before the court a preliminary status report which stated that four cases have been registered and 43 persons arrested so far. Each case is being investigated by a special investigation team.
