UP politician D P Yadav sentenced to life in MLA murder case

Former Uttar Pradesh minister D P Yadav, convicted in a murder case, has been sentenced to life.

He was earlier convicted in a murder case of Mahendra Singh Bhati, then MLA from Dadri in Ghaziabad district, and one of his associates.

Bhati and his close friend Udai Prakash Arya was gunned down by armed assailants on September 13, 1992.

Out of the four accused, DP Yadav, Karan Yadav and Praneet Bhatti have been convicted under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Pal Singh, alias Lakkad, was found guilty under section 302, 307, 326 of IPC as well as section 27 of the Arms Act.
