Aviation ministry says NO to charge for check-in baggage

The minister of state for aviation has rejected the proposal of low-cost airlines to charge for check-in baggage. The minister said that they do not want to burden the passengers.    

SpiceJet, Indigo and AirAsia had sought permission to abolish the concept of free baggage and instead incentivise those passengers, who travel without any luggage through discount in fares.   

At present, passengers don't have to pay for bags that are checked in as long as this is within the stipulated weight limit, generally 15 kg in economy class, paying only when they exceed this.
