"The train of development which we inherited was a derailed one and we have put it back on track. We have made the passenger train into a Rajdhani train and in some time, we will convert it into a bullet train," the Minister said. "The Indian economy today is a US $2 trillion economy. All the actions that our government is taking will enable us to be able to get on the path of sustainable growth of 7 per cent, 8 per cent or 9 per cent," Sinha said at an event in Mumbai.

"And if we are able to sustain this growth rate... for a decade... our US $2 trillion economy will become US $4 trillion or 5 trillion economy, making us the third largest economy in absolute terms," he said.

18:12   'If modified, Muslims have no problem with yoga'
Muslims have no problem with yoga provided certain modifications are made to it, prominent Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind leader Maulana Mahmood Madani has said. He, however, alleged that a concerted effort is being made to give a particular colour to yoga and "that is what is creating problems".

"We Muslims have no problem with yoga but there are certain words that need to be corrected. As a physical exercise and as a way of life, yoga has great benefits but it has been given a particular colour and that is not correct. Yoga should not be associated with any particular religion," he told Rajat Sharma on India TV's Aap Ki Adalat.

"If certain changes are made, then more and more people will start practicing yoga... and it may become a medium for uniting people in the country," he said according to a press release issued by the channel.

Elaborating his reservations concerning surya namaskar, Madani said, "Considering sun as god is against the basic tenets of Islam. It should not be made a part of government-organised functions."

Delhi Police has claimed that a nearly month-long investigation found that Tomar not only submitted fake science graduation degree and law mark sheets to register with the Bar Council of Delhi but forged a migration certificate also.

In the dock over his alleged fake degrees, the former AAP minister was taken to Bihar's Munger district from Faizabad on Friday for verification of his law degree.

49-year-old Tomar, who quit as Delhi Law Minister after being arrested on charges of furnishing false degrees, was confirmed to have passed law examination in 1998-99 from a Bihar college.

Officials present during the questioning of Tomar, who was brought from Delhi by police at Biswanath Law College in Munger, said on condition of anonymity that college registers revealed that the former minister had enrolled in it under roll number 10136 in 1994-95 session.

It was also found that Tomar had appeared for the law examination in 1994-95 and 1995-96 sessions but did not appear in 1996-97 as he had failed. Later, he appeared again in 1998-99 and got the degree, the officials said.

01:34   Canada offers to take in jailed Saudi blogger Badawi
Canada today offered to take in Raif Badawi, a jailed Saudi blogger who faces flogging, listing him as a priority immigrant on humanitarian grounds so that he might rejoin his family already living here.

The province of Quebec cleared the way for his coming to this country by offering Badawi a so-called immigration selection certificate.

These are issued "in exceptional circumstances to foreigners in need of protection," Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil said.

In this case, it opens the door for Ottawa to increase pressure on Saudi Arabia to release Badawi and allow him to join his wife Ensaf Haidar and three children in exile.

The family lives in Sherbrooke, Quebec, 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of Montreal.

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said he was hopeful the offer to help Badawi immigrate to Canada "will allow us to break the logjam and have a happy ending to this."

To Saudi Arabian authorities, the blogger is a criminal. And for that, he is to be publicly flogged -- as happened in January, when he stoically arched his back in pain while getting 50 lashes.

He's supposed to get 19 more rounds of such punishment, according to the advocacy group Human Rights Watch. The second batch of 50 lashes was supposed to come not long after the first, but it's been pushed back several times -- including Friday.

Amnesty reported as much on Twitter, as did Badawi's wife Ensaf Haidar.
