Army ops against militants suspected of the Manipur ambush: "Today we inflicted significant casualties on militants along the Indo-Myanmar border who were involved in the Manipur ambush recently. We also had "credible and specific" intelligence that they were planning to carry out more attacks in our territory," army spokesperson Major Gen Randhir Singh said today.

"We are in communication with Myanmar authorities and we've traditionally had a close relationship with the Myanmar army. We look forward to working with them to combating terrorism in future too," the army said.

In the worst such attack in two decades, insurgents last week ambushed a military convoy in Manipur's Chandel district killing at least 18 army personnel and injuring 11 others. Army and civilian authorities suspect the involvement of Manipur rebel outfit Peoples Liberation Army and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, a Meitei revolutionary organisation, who used landmines, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons.
