The Delhi police has asked for five days custody of Delhi law minister Jitendra Singh Tomar.

Forty-nine-year-old Tomar, a member of Legislative Assembly from Trinagar and a first time minister, was arrested around 11 am following investigation into a complaint by the bar council of Delhi that he had obtained a fake law degree from the Institute of Legal Studies College in Munger in Bihar. Tomar's lawyer has maintained that the arrest was illegal as the probe by the bar council is still pending.

The arrest came in the midst of a raging battle between the AAP government and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung over the powers of the city government, giving a new political twist to the murky fight.
