The army is taking a look at its own operational lacunae after the attack that killed 18 soldiers of the 6th battalion of the Dogra Regiment in Manipur.


For the battalion (900 to 1,100 troops), the attack came at a moment of change. Did the attackers know it? The answer is up in the air. The battalion's commanding officer - a colonel - was on leave to his hometown at the time of the incident. He returned yesterday, but was too late.
