Criticising 1993 Mumbai terror attacks convict Yakub Memon's execution; the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday said that Eye for an eye cannot be the philosophy of India's judicial prudence.

"This incident has brought the point effectively that our country should abolish death penalty. However, BJP's mind set is different. Eye for an eye cannot be the philosophy of India's judicial prudence. Time has come that we say an emphatic no to capital punishment in India," said CPI leader D. Raja.
