Col Rai's body being taken to the funeral pyre amid the sound of conches. No shortage of pall bearers for this brave, brave man. His daughters being led away from the pyre.

Col Rai's batchmate and close friend Colonel Amit Aul remembers him as a brave and daring soldier. CNN IBN reports, "He was a great colleague, we underwent training together and he volunteered to join the Gorkha Regiment. Then we both were given the command of two battallions of Rashtriya Rifles. He was a fine commanding officer. I always envied him that he took his regiment to newer heights."
