Mamata asks Jadavpur University VC to step down

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who arrived in Jadavpur University this afternoon along with State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, has announced that the controversial vice chancellor Abhijit Chakraborty has been asked to resign.

Thirteen students of the university are on a hunger strike since January 5 with a five-point charter of demands including the resignation of the VC whom they hold responsible for the police crackdown on them during a gherao on September 17 night.
