RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's controversial comment that Mother Teresa served the poor with the objective of converting people to Christianity had the government facing opposition fury in Parliament today.

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said in the Lok Sabha today, "I can give an explanation on what the government says, not on what some party's chief or general secretary says."

The Congress said the BJP must apologise on behalf of the RSS, and called for a discussion, but the Speaker,  rejected it.

On Monday, Bhagwat at a village in Rajasthan said, "Here (the NGO opening), the service isn't like Mother Teresa's. Her service would have been good but it used to have one objective, to see that the person who was being helped felt obliged to become a Christian. The question is not about conversion but if this (conversion) is done in the name of service, then that service gets devalued. In our country, service is neutral."
