The buzz in the corridors of power is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to auction his much-commented-upon bandhgala with 'Narendra Damodardas Modi' monogrammed all over the fabric as pinstripes.

Specially tailored for Modi's interactions with US President Barack Obama  last month, the jacket received a fair bit of criticism in the media, which reached a crescendo following the BJP's Delhi electoral debacle when even party leaders spoke of the expensive jacket sending out a negative signal to the voters.

The suggestion to auction the piece came from a senior Union minister and is under active consideration, according to a highly placed source.

If accepted, the proceeds from the auction will be gifted to an NGO in Varanasi, with which gesture the government hopes to erase the negative impression created by it.
