All public schools in Los Angeles were closed on Tuesday over unspecified threat, local media reported.

The students who were already at school were sent back home.

Authorities said that closure of schools was due to 'an abundance of caution' after the nation's second largest school district received 'an electronic threat' on Tuesday morning.

Details regarding the threat were not immediately available.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified and the threat is being analysed.

All schools are being searched by law enforcement agents.
