Germany will deploy two Tornado reconnaissance jets and 40 troops to Turkey on Thursday to support the fight against terror group Islamic State in Syria, the military said on Tuesday.

Germany will send two of the six Tornados it has pledged. The German troops will leave the Jagel base in northern Germany on an A400M and an A310 MRT aerial refuelling jet will also be deployed.

German lawmakers had last week authorised the deployment of up to 1,200 personnel and the aircraft to join international military operations against the IS, in support of France after the Paris attacks.
