National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed President Pranab
Mukherjee today over national security issues.

Though the meeting was termed 'routine', sources say the meeting assumes importance in the backdrop of Prime Minister Modi's foreign visits in the next two months and the capture of Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Naved Yakub in Udhampur, Jammu, last week.

Doval is said to be spearheading a mission to target terrorist commanders in the aftermath of the back-to-back suicide attacks in Gurdaspur in Punjab and Udhampur in J&K, killing a total of nine people in both the states and injuring over 20 others.

Doval has held several meetings with top security and intelligence officials after the July 27 attack in Udhampur to neutralise terrorists in hiding.

A highly decorated police officer and former Intelligence Bureau chief Ajit Doval, considered to be one of the finest operational brains, took over as NSA chief in May last year.
