India needs better tracks and not bullet trains: Trivedi

Even as the death toll continues to mount following the derailment of the Kamayani Express and the Janata Express, the Centre has come under attack over the shoddy state of the Railways.

Former Union Railways Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi took a dig at the Narendra Modi government, saying the country needs better tracks and not bullet trains.

He also claimed that "there would hardly be any accidents in premium trains like Shatabdi, such incidents take place only in these trains."

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, in a series of tweets, called for the resignation of Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu.

Two separate train accidents in a single day in MP and before that break down of Signalling system in Itarsi resulted in utter chaos. What is happening Mr Prabhu ? We always considered you to be a good Minister. May I remind you? Shastriji resigned after a train accident," he tweeted.
