Masarat Alam detained under Public Safety Act

Senior separatist leader, Masarat Alam Bhat has been detained under the Public Safety Act and lodged in high security Kotbalwal jail. 

Alam had last week been arrested by the state police 'for provocative activities and hoisting Pakistan flag' during a rally to welcome hardline separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani on April 15. 

Alam had applied for a bail and the matter was pending in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam. The CJM was to pass the order on the bail application on Saturday. He had been remanded to police custody which would have ended on Saturday.
