Separatist leader Masarat Alam arrested in Srinagar

Mukhtar Ahmad/Rediff.com reports from Srinagar: Separatist leader Masarat Alam, who was under house arrest with Hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has been arrested.

Senior police officers have confirmed his detention.

The police had on Wednesday filed a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Geelani and separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat for allegedly raising anti-national slogans during a rally in Srinagar.

According to media reports, BJP leaders threatened to skip cabinet meet if he was not arrested.
