China's runway in disputed South China Sea island

China has made alarming and rapid progress in building an airstrip suitable for military use in disputed South China Sea waters.

Work is progressing on a runway on reclaimed part of Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly archipelago, Reuters reported on Friday, citing recent satellite images.The archipelago is contested by the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
