Widows from Bengal, Bihar should not crowd Vrindavan, beg out of habit: Hema

Actor-parliamentarian Hema Malini has come under intense criticism for her uncharitable comments about the widows of Vrindavan. The actress who is an MP from Mathura, (Vrindavan is part of the Mathura district) said that the widows who are mostly from West Bengal and Bihar should go back home and not crowd Vrindavan.

The holy city of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh is home to thousands of destitute women.

For good measure, she also said that the Vrindavan widows have a bank balance and "a good income, nice beds, but they beg out of habit."

The BJP MP, made the comments while visiting her parliamentary constituency on Monday. She said she would talk to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over the matter.
