Washout cloud on J&K polls

Jammu and Kashmir's worst flood ravage in living memory has practically drowned the Assembly polls scheduled this winter and set the state up for its first spell of President's Rule since the early 1990s.

Embattled as it is with nature's devastation, the state also appears headed for renewed political turbulence once the waters settle.

In the first indication timely elections won't happen in the tide-torn state, central election commissioners today scrapped a field tour customarily taken before dates are set.  Read
